About Matthew Langwell

I am an avid Cloud Engineer that enjoys growing my knowledge wealth continuously. Ever since I wrote my first application I couldn't get enough. I started in game development in college, but quickly found my love for developing web applications and working with the Cloud after I graduated.My first project was a monster of it's own. I was responsible for porting a 20 year old desktop application into the cloud, as a contractor, for the world's largest chemical company. After many late nights training myself and coaching others I quickly grew into a permanent Senior Developer position. While developing the application, I also spent time developing coding standards, reviewing a dozen developer's code, and working with several project managers to ensure our application was going according to plan.I have grown into a Leadership position and I couldn't be more pleased with how I have helped develop others. I have thoroughly enjoyed being able to learn the strengths and weaknesses of all of my team members and performing resource allocation across several projects. While maintaining my own development experience and growing my architecture experience, I continue to assist others as issues arise or as a coaching opportunity presents itself. I have also been holding live training sessions with the team where I dive into specifics that I identify as weak spots.I specialize in the Angular (not js) framework. I am also very familiar with C#, SQL, HTML5, CSS/SCSS, and responsive design (Flexbox and CSS Grid). However, I have knowledge of other languages/frameworks like C++, Node.js, Express, and ServiceStack. I also have experience in implementing Microservice Architecture as well as Domain Drive Design patterns. Each day I am becoming more familiar with Azure Architecture and Azure DevOps. I have also become very comfortable with Project Management responsibilities in Azure DevOps and have designed projects around the Scaled Agile Framework.

As the Cloud Development Team Lead of the Global Digital Products team, I focus my efforts on ensuring my team is staying on track with the projects we have. I do this in several ways by acting as a Scrum Master, Principal Engineer, and Technical Architect. We like to think of our application as a Platform, where we have several projects in an Angular monorepo, as well as several monolithic/micro services as our APIs. Our project took a brownfield approach, where we started with a monolithic API; now we are spending efforts creating new Microservices as well as breaking our monolith into Microservices. We have done this by adopting DDD patterns into our SDLC, and I take my time to ensure our developers know how to properly do so.Aside from making sure my developers and architecture are in check, I also work on their professional growth. I try to help make sure that they are aligned with their career goals, as well as the knowledge they need to elevate themselves professionally.I also spend time in the hiring process where we try to find top talent for positions we have available. I have helped hire over 20 developers, several Automation Engineers, and a Solution Architect. I helped construct a unique approach for each position by creating coding challenges, interview questions and bringing an overall pleasant experience for our candidates. Finally, I spend time ensuring Business Stakeholders and our customers are happy. I do this on a daily basis via meetings, emails, and chats. I find it very rewarding when my team is able to deliver functionality to the end user and they just absolutely love it.
