Reporting to the Field Engineer Manager.The supported system comprised of a mixed Unix/Windows server environment with nodes located worldwide, utilising Cisco distribution and access network infrastructure and a number of third party core network infrastructures.Took on the role of Project Manager for the migration of a mission critical information system within Task Force Helmand, Afghanistan. A vital component of what was publicised as 'the most complicated headquarters move in British Army history'. This involved creating a design specification with the customer, designing a full infrastructure solution, identifying and ordering required assets, managing a project team, coordinating a multi-agency installation team, implementing system testing, and providing a migration support team for the users. The project was delivered on time and to specification within an extremely limited budget.Stepped up from senior engineer to become the organisation’s senior technical manager for a period of two months during a gap of the position. This involved oversight of simultaneous international projects and their project teams, efficiently tasking all departments, chairing weekly head of department meetings, approving the deployment of personnel and assets, dealing with incidents escalated from the incident manager. Maintained the organisation’s performance throughout the term and implemented new transition management procedures, which are still in place.Deployed as service operation manager and level 3 engineer for a mission critical system across the whole of Afghanistan. Ensured limited equipment and staff resources were prioritised and tasked correctly, planned outages were scheduled in sympathy with a 24/7 working environment, unplanned outages were responded to with upmost urgency, with incident information escalated appropriately. -

This included tactical radio communications (voice and data), strategic dial-up data links, small deployed LANs and assorted CCTV equipment. On top of normal workshop duties, responsibilities included providing technical advice during equipment procurement proceedings and heading up equipment trials. Whilst in this unit's employment I planned and helped to plan CIS solutions for exercises and operations in the UK, Cyprus, USA, Iraq and Afghanistan. In the last year of my tenure at this unit I became the sole CIS instructor to both users and technicians. -

Additionally, implemented new security procedures and software, implemented a dedicated dial up ISDN link to allow for more efficient strategic communication and significantly extended the footprint of the deployed tactical communications network.Successfully planned and delivered an Anglo-American joint project with complicated multi-national security considerations. Compliance with two different nation’s security policies required careful design, close co-ordination between a number of agencies, negotiation and conflict management.
