I’m a software engineer with a wife and 3 kids.I went to a technical school to focus on Maths, Science, and Electrical Engineering. I was hoping to become a Fighter Pilot for the South African Air Force but to become an electrical engineer should the former not work out.I was a few percent short of making the Engineering Faculty for the University of Stellenbosch and University of Cape Town after High School. I obtained a bursary from Eskom to study at Stellenbosch doing a BSc in the first year and then moving over to BEng the following year, so I decided to do BSc Laser Physics for my first year which incorporated all four majors (Maths, Physics, Computer Science, Chemistry). I unfortunately partied like crazy in my first year and did not focus on my studies. I had to repeat a lot of modules and I lost my bursary. In second year I did very well but at the close of the year I again partied and didn’t focus on my studies and didn’t pass my 2nd semester Maths and Physics.I transferred to the University of the Western Cape in my 3rd year to do Chemical Sciences. I did well academically and got invited to the Golden Key society and received funding towards my university account for the subjects I did well in. I also received a grant the following year from NSFAS. At the end of the year I decided to switch back to doing Computer Science because I was told by friends how hard it was to find work with a degree in Chemistry. I then finished my undergrad in Computer Science and pursued a career in Software Development.I’ve worked for various software companies over the years. From Fintech to Marketing companies. I spent most of my years working on governmental projects and for a software house who works on various projects in all sorts of industries. I’ve been a team lead, architect and director. I’ve learnt to work independently and as a team. I love working with people, and especially doing hackathon style competitions.I do my best to remain honest to everyone and to use my life as an example to help everybody’s self growth. I love science and technology and thrive working in environments that allow me to work on the latest tech stacks that the software industry has to offer. I love working in a team and enjoy building relationships from the ground up. I appreciate challenges that come my way and always do my best to remain optimistic. I enjoy learning, teaching and mentoring, whether it be in logical academics or philosophy.I’d like to use my skills for the betterment of people’s lives and to steer humanity towards a fair and sustainable lifestyle.

Software DeveloperIpreo May 2016 - Apr 2017Cape Town Area, South AfricaOne of the best companies to work for! Great work environment and extremely relaxing. Working with international colleagues really helped broaden my social awareness in software development .I was part of a team that was developing a microservice that was part of BD Corporate, a product of Ipreo. We were using AngularJS 1 for the front-end and .NET for the back-end together with MSSQL. There was a strong focus on database management and automated deployments and testing. Testing was done through all layers of our solution: front-end, API, service, and repository layers. -
