As the Apprenticeship Director for the Electrical Training Academy, I am responsible for the day to day operations of the apprenticeship and other related programs under the direction of the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee. This includes managing all aspects of the training program for electrical apprentices, pre apprentices, journey-level workers and contractors. Focus is given to develop and implement the curriculum, ensuring that it aligns with industry standards and regulatory requirements. I oversee the coordination with trainers and instructors to deliver comprehensive and engaging classroom instruction, hands-on practical training, and on-the-job mentoring. Monitoring the progress and performance of apprentices, providing guidance and support as needed to ensure successful completion of the program is also a key part of the role. Additionally, collaboration with industry partners, electrical associations, and regulatory bodies to stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in the electrical field, and incorporate them into the training program to ensure apprentices receive the most up-to-date education and skills is crucial.Securing and managing grants is essential to the success of our programs. This includes researching and identifying potential funding opportunities, preparing grant proposals, and maintaining proper documentation and reporting to meet grant requirements. I also ensure that grant funds are used effectively and efficiently, directing resources towards enhancing the training program and providing additional support to apprentices, such as scholarships or specialized equipment.

This was accomplished by competency based training that focused on individual skill development and proficiency. This role consisted of curriculum development, lectures creating labs and simulators, securing funding, and building a network of industry partners. It was in this role where I first learned the value of helping people develop into the person that they would need to become to have a successful career in the trades.
