The focus of my role is on securing Whitbread's Digital function, which supports and furthers the company's billion pound revenue systems. This part of the business is primarily made up of development and cloud engineering delivery teams.My role has a range of responsibilites to meet this focus:I help the team to develop an understanding, appreciation and knowledge of security that they can then use in their own work.In order to meet the contemporary security challenges in cloud security, I select, introduce and monitor security tooling. This includes overall activity on the platform and securing our delivery pipelines (including code scanning and repository management tools)I act as an extention to other security teams for their Digital requirements in particular responding and supporting as part of security incident response procedures.Overall I found it a fascinating area to work in due to the ever-changing state of cloud technologies and i'm excited to learn more.

Worked within the Security team and gained a grounding in a range of domains, including threat intelligence, incident response, web traffic protection, vulnerability management and network monitoring. I have worked with technologies including Proofpoint, Zscaler, Akamai, Qualys, WhiteHat, and Darktrace to improve the security posture in each tool’s respective areas and also run proof of concept trials with threat intelligence vendors to select the appropriate solution for the compant. As part of this scheme I have been able to gain insight into the complex challenges facing a FTSE 100 company, especially those brought about by keystone events such as GDPR or adapting into large scale cloud environments and the security considerations which these shifts demand.

A ten week internship working at Fidelity Business Services in Dalian, China, as part of the Saltire Foundation's Saltire Scholarship programme. Based in the Dalian office's Innovation Team, I implemented an artificial intelligence project for use by the rest of the business. I have gained experience in using a range of AI technologies and techniques, as well as hands on experience with implementing deep learning, machine learning and data mining solutions.

Industrial placement year taken between second and third year of university. My role involved the designing, developing, testing and maintenance of web applications for internal use within the Aberdeen affiliate. The web applications were created primarily in asp.NET. In addition to this, I also made use of Microsoft Sharepoint, Infopath, HTML/CSS, and Javascript to maintain the company Intranet. During the course of my placement, I was able to get hands on experience in the different stages of software development; developing, testing, creating documentation and client communication to name a few, whilst also building on my general skills in report writing, presenting and time management.
