Working in the telecommunications field for over twenty years has given me the opportunity to participate in every level of the industry. Datacenter installs, central office equipment installation and power work between semesters of school at the beginning of my career taught me best practices and standards for how the network should be managed physically. Moving into a field engineering roll allowed me to learn network technology standards and how to build high performance networks with the best design practices. Excelling at delivering projects lead me to a leadership role managing deployment teams for large network deployments and maintenances. This also provided an opportunity to learn the importance of thorough planning, diligent execution, and excellent communication. Especially when working with teams spread over large distances while building long haul DWDM infrastructure.With a solid foundation of telecommunications knowledge I was able to join a start up company as an owner to build a full greenfield internet service provider network. In the process I learned all that it takes to construct a network from the ground up by handling outside plant design, permitting, and management of multiple constructions teams. In this venture I was fortunate to be involved in many areas outside of my previous experience including working on direct sales, customer service, regulatory processes and finance management for the business. Eventually, even having the opportunity to work with investment banks to broker the sale of the business to my current employer.Today I'm responsible for leading the Optical Engineering department. In this role I manage a team of people to build new services for our customers, grow the optical infrastructure and maintain the transport networks. In addition to that I also support the executive team on costing and design for future growth opportunities. Working as a leader in a large organization has helped me grow leadership skills through interdepartmental coordination. We work as a team in our group everyday to evaluate the best solutions both for our customers and our company.
