Operations Manager

Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

Responsible for the safety of all staff (100 - 130), while ensuring costs, productivity, and customer service targets were met/exceeded in line with business goals. This was achieved through overseeing all day-to-day operations of the business in collaboration with Supervisors & Team Leaders daily, via a huddle, to prioritise workflows and resources in line with customer demand,Achievements:• Reduced overtime by 100% by staggering shifts and introducing afternoon shift (cater for outstanding work - outstanding orders, put-aways, replenishments & inventory control). Casual rostering was managed daily to forecast and freed up MHE equipment for dayshift use.• 100% safety incidents, hazards and actions were reported, investigated and actions taken and closed. This was accomplished by setting aside daily safety time and training Supervisors / Team Leaders to identify hazards and close these out.• With sudden growth in order volume and customer demand for one of our pet food customers, more staging and packing space was required. In collaboration with our Continuous Improvement team, we moved the Receiving area to utilise the larger space, designed and implemented a put wall with 254 slots and increased packing stations from 4 to 12 which doubled productivity - 300 orders to 600 in a shift.• Consolidated existing customer products, moving consumables to containers in the yard, opening up 500 pallet spaces. Reconfigured existing racking to accommodate new customers’ pallet requirements, with assistance from Warehouse by Design.• With an increased number of clients being onboarded, more LO & LF drivers were required. As part of the Risk Management Project, 20 freight handlers (existing staff) were trained as LO & LF drivers, and 15 freight handlers were trained in Inventory processes. This reduced the cost & time of hiring casual staff.

Overseeing six B2B and six B2C customers and supporting Supervisors / Team Leaders in daily activities from solving pick/pack issues to training and development of staff.Achievements:• In collaboration with Team Leaders & Freight Handlers, I reviewed and re-wrote all B2B customer SOPs, detailing step by step work instructions with illustrations to capture each process. These SOPs & Work Instructions were then used in new team members’ training.• Developed and implemented a mentor program - “Diamonds in the Rough”. This identified key areas of the business that required back up to ensure business continuity. Introduced cross training of staff at all levels from Team Leaders to NSW Manager, ensuring coverage of all positions to allow for sick or leave entitlements. The process provided training for career development and increased staff retention.• Achieved 99% DIFOT by facilitating daily Team Leader meetings to analysis volumes and allocate necessary resources to meet agreed customer targets.

Originally set as a six-month project, it was completed within 3 months, with $460K of stock removed from lists. I was nominated as a Finalist in 2011 Weston’s Best Awards.• Over a 3-month period, I reviewed all work functions in the Finished Goods Warehouse (FGW) and developed a SOP for each function for training and audit purposes, providing clear guidelines in line with Good Manufacturing Practices.• Achieved 99% DIFOT through introduction of daily reviews of order demand, customer forecasting and production schedules and making production changes as required. • As Team Leader for Project Route 2010 (a $12mil Capital project to automate the business and reduce casual labour to nil), I assisted in restructuring Cereform operations, building a new production facility and matching job skills to new positions to accommodate a new production facility whilst continuing to manage the existing operation.
