Senior researcher developing machine vision systems utilising digital holographic techniques

Founded the laser spectroscopy group at Triumf, a multi-national collaboration investigating ground state nuclear structure via the hyperfine interaction. Required the development of laser spectroscopic techniques, using radio-frequency and microwave manipulation of both the light amplitude and frequency. In addition developed ion sources and ion beam manipulation systems, including RF quadrupoles, and magnetostatic and dynamic ion traps. Developed many diagnostic devices and techniques for utilising low intensity radioactive ion beams including time correlated techniques for use with pulsed laser ion sources. Developed many training courses both required safety and general how to in addition to being the site laser safety officer and member of the TaPRooT root cause investigation team. Supervised many students and staff members at all levels. Gave physics oversight and guidance to many complex, cross disciplinary, novel projects ranging in size from summer student theses to multi-million dollar, international undertakings. Site laser safety officer for many years, implementing a culture of safe use of lasers within the laboratory.

Developed the neutral atom trap for beta-decay in order to carry out stringent tests of the standard model utilising a combination of both nuclear and atomic physics techniques.

Developed and improved all aspects of the Francium trapping facility from Francium production through transport to cooling trapping and performing high precision, state of the art atomic and nuclear physics measurements.
