My work experience has been a mix of multidisciplinary projects. In my current role, I am learning systems engineering to drive quality and traceability into the design process. I lead a team of engineers in developing embedded locomotive control software using Matlab. For my PhD, I worked in the field of bioprocess control designing feed algorithms for recombinant E.coli. In both my MS and PhD projects, I enjoyed the mix of process modeling and actual experiment work. My broad knowledge base allows me to have a practical idea of what is possible while still allowing me to keep my mind open to out-of-the-box ideas. I use first principles to analyze a problem and fully explore the problem space, coming up with innovative solutions by continuing to focus the end goal of a process or project. I enjoy sharing new concepts with others and motivating view the world outside of their current perspectives. Graduate ResearcherClemson University Feb 2012 - Aug 2015Clemson University, Clemson, ScWorking as the primary researcher to design an adaptive control algorithm which can maximize protein production from a recombinant E.coli culture while requiring minimal prior knowledge about the strain. I augmented a 5L Biostat B bench-top bioreactor system with off-gas and weight sensors. I integrated the inputs of these sensors into a custom supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system using Matlab/Simulink and the OPC protocol. I simulated the bioreactor system in Matlab using an E.coli growth rate and mass-balance model from literature. I was in charge of training and direction of 4 Masters students as they supported me on my project and worked on their own individual projects. -
