About Matthew Pest

I am a creative technologist. A divergent thinker with a bright vision of the future. Dissecting and understanding complex systems is my skill. Working towards a smarter tomorrow is my passion. It follows that my professional goal is to help various industries adopt next-generation technology paradigms (Cloud, AI, Blockchain, Quantum, etc.). It's my belief that this is how I can be most effective at imparting a broad positive impact on the world. As a self-driven individual, I continually strive to create and pursue my own opportunities. I seek out personal challenges and learn as I go. This effort has driven me to lead product development for two startups, a hospitality management SaaS based out of India and my current project - The Blox Office, an independent concert ticketing platform based in Chicago. For the last few years I have focused on digital project management and entrepreneurship, but my first career was in Patent Law. I am always looking to reengage that skill set, but specifically for clients seeking applications related to quantum computing/encryption, deep learning, distributed cryptographic systems (blockchain), holographic imaging, and other cutting edge fields.

  • Helius.Io
Co-Founder & Head Of Product Development
    Helius.Io Mar 2016 - Nov 2016
    New Delhi Area, India
At helius I was responsible for a plurality of duties which typically fall under the respective jurisdictions of the COO, CTO, and Product Development Lead. I was the system architect for our initial SaaS offering, the Helius Hospitality Management Suite. This entailed ideating, refining, and composing all product features, process workflows and a strategy for their digital implementation. I worked directly with our dev team to ensure an efficient and scalable infrastructure. Furthermore, I led our design team, acting as the sole point of contact between both departments and the C-suite.As the head of product development it was my responsibility to oversee delivery of our MVP as well as all subsequent updates. I performed extensive research into available programming languages, libraries, frameworks, and enterprise utilities with the purpose of identifying the technologies we would leverage. I ensured our development team PM had clear and detailed directives for executing all tasks related to the coding of our application. This included providing parameters for the database schema, back-end models, API requirements, application routing, and front-end interface. Additionally, I worked hand-in-hand with our design team, providing them with prototype wire frames, functional requirements, and our brand identity guidelines. On the operations side, I managed internal tasks for all helius employees. The CEO and I worked continually as a team to determine which jobs were required, what was their priority, whether they should be executed in-house our outsourced, etc. Together we devised strategies for (i) on-boarding key members to the team, (ii) negotiating contracts with external entities, (iii) disseminating our desired corporate culture, and (iv) improving operational efficiency.

  • Paul G Kwiat Quantum Information Group
    Undergraduate Research Assistant
Paul G Kwiat Quantum Information Group May 2012 - Sep 2012
Pgk Qi Group At Loomis Lab
For this project I designed and built an optics bench setup for first and second order autocorrelation and phase retrieval of femtosecond laser pulses in the UV. I custom fabricated a two-photon-absorption detector circuit utilizing a generic op amp and a suitable photodiode which was selected via extensive research into the prior art. The construction of the nanometer-resolved autocorrelation experiment comprised utilizing a pellicle beam-splitter, piezoelectric controlled stages, the TPA detector, and a linear absorption detector. This experiment was carried out in an effort to generate fringe-resolved results of the phase of the absorbed photons. I coded a LabView program for automating computer control of the stages and created a direct-to-software data acquisition script which ran alongside the controlled displacement of the stages. Towards the end of my stay, I began coding data analysis software based on a hybrid genetic-simplex algorithm written in Matlab. These efforts helped graduate students - PhD candidates - better understand the alignment of a grander optics bench set-up that was engineered to entangle photons for quantum information science experiments.
