Executed PhD level research on Hybrid Induction Heating and Linear Friction Welding (LFW).Developed a novel user routine in Fortran that calculates friction factor based on growing asperity contacts for an LFW simulation in the FEA software, DEFORM. Operated various machines, including an LFW machine, induction heating unit, MTS tester (tension testing and three-point-bending), polishing wheel, lapping machine, microhardness tester, optical microscopes, and scanning electron microscopes (SEM).Conducted a two-level factorial DOE, proving upset distance has the largest effect on energy used during LFW.
