I have always had a strong desire to work in a field that would help to improve the lives of others. By combining this desire with my passion for sports and fitness, I realized that physical therapy was the ideal career path for me. I further developed my love for the physical therapy field during my more than 150 hours of shadowing a licensed physical therapist. During my time shadowing two different physical therapists, I realized just how much of an impact they made on their patients. Often times, when patients first came into the clinic, they were dejected and discouraged due to their injuries. However, throughout their time in the clinic they began to rehabilitate their injuries, improve their quality of life, and regain their confidence. This experience further proved to me that physical therapy was the career path for me because it is fulfilling to be able to rehabilitate patients to their post-injury selves. I look forward to attending the DPT program at the University of Delaware because it is a highly esteemed DPT program that will give me the necessary tools to become a licensed physical therapist. With the education that I will receive, along with leadership skills that I have attained from being a captain of Salve Regina's football team, I am confident that I will be able to effectively teach future patients corrective exercises that will lead to an efficient recovery. My long-term goal is to one day own an outpatient clinic of my own where I will be able to treat people of all different backgrounds.
