Matthew was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Rawson Group in December 2014. He led a team of over 300 professionals spread across greater Sydney, Newcastle and the Hunter Valley, Country NSW and the ACT. Rawson Group is a top three residential builder and land developer in NSW. The Group has three business units: Rawson Homes, Thrive Homes and Rawson Communities. Rawson Homes specialises in both retail and wholesale contract home building for the knock-down rebuild and house and land package markets. Thrive Homes specialises in house/land/finance packages for the first homebuyer and investor market segments. Our Rawson Communities business specialises in greenfield residential land development of our own development pipeline and they provide development management services for third party clients. The business was started by the Rawson brothers in 1978 out of a small garage in Dubbo NSW. It quickly grew to surrounding Country NSW towns and later expanded to the ACT and regional Sydney. After moving the head office to Sydney, the business completed its comprehensive NSW and ACT operating footprint. As the Group’s first Chief Executive Officer, Matthew worked closely with his new independent Board members to corporatise the business as part of the founders’ succession plan by creating and implementing an enduring through-the-cycle growth strategy. Matthew led the Group through a recapitalisation which included the creation of a $200 million residential development joint venture with offshore capital partners. In 2017, as the Group’s Managing Director and CEO, he led the team through a sale process to Japan’s Daiwa House Industry which settled in February 2018. Matthew completed a two and a half year post merger integration period to transition the Group to offshore ownership and replace the Board. In July 2020, Matthew started a six month gardening leave period.

Led the team that looked after the Group's Business Development and Capital Transaction activity across Commercial Property (Retail, Office and Industrial), Residential Communities, and Retirement Living. The team had a physical presence in three Australian states and handled property investments in both Australia and the UK. Completed over $3.7 billion of direct property transactions where $1 billion was deployed on key acquisitions. This represents a three-plus year average run rate of just under $90 million a month.

As part of the Strategy and Corporate Development team, he played a key role in the purchase of $650 million of strategic stakes, raised $1.9 billion of equity and completed the takeover of a $400 million ASX‐listed property company. His team delivered a dozen strategy review cycles and business deep‐dives for Stockland’s Board of Directors.
