Software Engineering and Media LabQuorum AccessibilityAssistive Technologies rely on OS dependent accessibility APIs to retrieve information about the screen to present to low-visibility and blind users through screen readers and other technologies. Without the implementation of these APIs, many Assistive Technologies will not function properly. The overall goal of this project was to eventually make 2D/3D games and other environments fully accessible to blind and low-visibility users of the Quorum programming language through the use of assistive technologies. This includes an in-game fully accessible user interface library. I was hired first to figure out if such a system is feasible and then build that system. The approach that I took on Windows was to phrase all game and user interface objects as UI Automation inherited objects. To accomplish this, I created a Java plugin for Quorum that managed accessibility for Quorum objects which will call native methods in a C++ library I developed through Java Native Interface (JNI).

Transportation Research CenterI did a wide variety of work ranging from programming applications for Data Analysis and Business Intelligence, optimizing intern's code, and technical writing.I worked on a project with graduate students that was for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department that was used for crash data collection. The parts that I worked on consisted of the desktop, mobile, and web applications using ASP.net MVC 5 and Universal Windows Platform. For the desktop/mobile applications my work focused on implementing an efficient, adaptive UI that would reduce the required time for officers to collect crash data on the scene of an accident. For the web portal, I did various front and back end development that involved redesigning the web portal layout and ensuring database information was correctly updated and presented.I also worked on several projects that were for the Nevada Department of Transportation and the Highway Performance Monitoring System. I wrote R and SQL scripts that were used for data analysis, forecasting, and modeling with the help of graduate students. These scripts were integrated into OBIEE technologies and presented through dashboards to users. I wrote an application that automated the update procedure for these projects which reduced the time required for updating datastores, R and SQL scripts, and other technologies from approximately 45 minutes to about 1 minute.
