Participants have the opportunity to earn Wilderness First Responder certification, as well as the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) levels one and two, all while gaining academic credit. With my coaching job with the ALPS team doubling as an internship for college credit, I had the unique opportunity to further advance my own leadership and group management skills. With one other coach, we took the team to Montana, British Columbia, and Quebec, spending roughly 50 days total skiing a variety of terrain and conditions, coast to coast, while growing individually and as a team.
