Responsible for developing and implementing the UN OCHA office strategy in Jordan and the Region. Responsible for coordinating the humanitarian sectors/clusters in Jordan in cross-border humanitarian support into non-government controlled areas in south Syria. Responsible for coordination of humanitarian aid convoys travelling from Jordan into Syria. Technical advisor to the Humanitarian Coordinator on humanitarian policy and practise. Developed transition plans refocusing the office from emergency humanitarian response to Humanitarian/Development Nexus approach and recovery.

Managed thirteen staff in three field offices in the West Bank.Designed and led high profile advocacy initiatives: briefing foreign dignitaries and decision-makers, diplomats, media and civil society on humanitarian issues related to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank.Acted as main interlocutor with the Israeli Civil Administration in the West Bank.Oversaw establishment of preparedness and response mechanism for communities in the West Bank vulnerable to natural disaster and shocks. Work included ensuring buy-in and support from the Palestinian Authority, Civil Defence and Palestinian Red Crescent.As Inter Sector Coordinator led the coordination of inter-agency humanitarian work in Palestine including during escalations of violence in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and conflict in Gaza.

Provided early warning analysis on political and humanitarian developments in Americas, Central Asia, Europe & Middle East. Provided advice and feedback on contingency plans in countries where early warning analysis indicated possible deterioration in the humanitarian situation.Provided support (briefing and background papers, talking points etc) to the Inter Agency Standing Committee Working Group on preparedness.Deployed to Haiti for 3 months following the earthquake in 2010 to lead the coordination of humanitarian sectors responding to the disaster. Deployed to Kyrgyzstan as the Head of the UN OCHA Office (Humanitarian Advisory Team) to provide strategic advice and representation on humanitarian response to the inter-ethnic violence affecting the country. Responsible for coordinating the analysis and assessments of outstanding humanitarian needs and the production of the humanitarian appeal document (Flash Appeal).

Coordinated humanitarian response during the final stages of the civil war in Northern Sri Lanka. Managed sub offices in Eastern Sri Lanka and Tamil Tiger held territory in Northern Sri Lanka. Advocated with authorities for access to provide protection monitoring and humanitarian assistance to camps holding more than 300,000 displaced people. Provided briefings and analysis on the humanitarian situation to UN officials, donors, diplomats and visiting dignitaries. Established and set up the the UN OCHA Jaffna office in 2008.

Provided analysis and developed strategy on protection of civilians affected by conflict in Darfur.Negotiated with various armed groups for access to provide humanitarian assistance to displaced people.Coordinated a large group of UN and INGO organisations providing water, shelter, food and other assistance to reduce gaps and duplication of services in camps.

Responsible for design and implementation of programs that supported IDP and Refugee returns and projects that promoted interethnic dialogue, reconciliation and reintegration.

Head of the Municipal Office for Local Communities ensuring that minorities have opportunity to participate in local government decisions making processes. Served as an advocate and representative for local minority interests in municipal assembly and committees.Opened and staffed municipal satellite office in the Serb enclave of Gorazdevac.

On behalf of the Director, oversaw the set-up of a new post-graduate academic department in the university, focused on the study of the problem of nationalism. The role included supporting recruitment of high quality faculty from around the world, interviewing prospective students, supporting the accreditation process and the coordination of the department during its first two academic years.
