Matt Shewmaker has spent the past 9 years working on building student success in band programs in the western Arkansas area. During his 3 year stay at Waldron High School, his bands were awarded many times at marching invitationals and in 2013 the ASBOA Sweepstakes. in June 2015, Mr. Shewmaker accepted the appointment of band director at Trinity JH in Fort Smith, AR. During his stay at Trinity, the band had many successes at assessments, and the band saw upswings in honor band participation. Many of the JH students at Trinity JH have gone on to make all-state at their current respective high schools.At Trinity, Mr. Shewmaker has increased participation in honor bands like the ASBOA All-Region bands, and maintained an enrollment around 50% of school population for his 7-9 band program. He teaches all wind instruments at the beginning level and directs an intermediate 8-9 group that maintains a demanding performance schedule for school and community events, competes in region assessments, and all other administrative duties pertaining to the management of a band program. Mr. Shewmaker also maintains a small private studio for brass instruments and guitar. In June 2019, Mr. Shewmaker accepted the Head Band Director position for the Paris School District. At Paris, Mr. Shewmaker oversees the needs of a 6-12 band program including 2 large ensembles, jazz band, guitar class, and beginner band classes.
