Westlake Village, California, Us

At Energy Vault, I've worked formally as a Test Engineer on our VaultOS Energy Management System (EMS) software team, and this role's scope includes many areas beyond test engineering due to the lean company employment strategy and the breadth of the team's responsibilities. The software team has delivered and commissioned three currently operational battery energy storage systems (BESS) power plants, and we are currently working to deliver several more BESS and hybrid energy storage systems through 2025.In this role, I've gained experience working on:- Cloud (AWS) and on-prem (VMWare) infrastructure deployment and monitoring- Terraform and Ansible provisioning of infrastructure assets- commissioning BESS plants and working with third-party suppliers to checkout equipment- conducting EMS factory acceptance tests with customers to demonstrate operational functionality- implementing DevSecOps principles for our application's code repositories and system maintenance procedures- developing our system's cyber security strategy to adhere to customer requirements and IEC standards- presenting internal sprint demos to our team on a regular basis that demonstrate the newest feature, updates, and fixes

Apr 2023 - Present

Sr Member Of Engineering Staff / Systems Software Engineer

Bethesda, Md, Us

In October 2020, I became a Baseline Development Lead (BDL) for an improved version of C&D software, adding several new BMD capabilities to Aegis. As the C&D lead for the baseline, I oversaw requirement development and specification changes, test issue investigation, verification & validation of software fixes, and reported status to program leadership. I also assisted with program management and assumed the role of C&D Cost Account Manager (CAM) for several contracts. As CAM, I was responsible for monitoring department spending on contracts and producing Earned Value Management (EVM) artifacts that would be audited by program management and the customer. After working several years as a systems engineer, I decided to make a career turn and focus on software engineering. In April 2022 I moved to C&D's model development team and worked on debugging model issues and implementing fixes released to the greater Aegis system modeling community. This role required me to come up to speed quickly on many software concepts and tools such as C++ syntax, C++ compilation, GDB, Makefiles, and object dependency. I also worked with Maven to build our deployed system code in the model environment for more arduous testing.

May 2021 - Apr 2023

Member Of The Engineering Staff / Systems Engineer

Bethesda, Md, Us

Working as a Command and Decision (C&D) systems engineer on the AEGIS Combat System, I began my role on the department's Agile automation team creating analysis outputs (plots, spreadsheets, animations) to verify system functionality and worked to build a Matlab based analysis suite that became a vital resource for accomplishing data reviews across the department. The scripts produced were pivotal in conducting Model Driven Testing (MDT) for the Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) capabilities of the system, and excelled at comparing the large swaths of Monte Carlo simulation data to selected runs collected from the deployed combat system. I supported several live test events at US Navy test sites, producing analysis outputs and briefs that were presented to the customer. These events consisted of several rounds of dry run testing which were verified using the analysis suite, and would also be used to recreate the event timeline after execution. After two years as a member of the automation team, I had enough system and programmatic knowledge to take over as the team's Product Owner (PO). This role coincided with substantial new hires in our department, as the team expanded from 4 to 15 members. As the PO, I conducted team meetings, assisted management with interviews and hiring for the team, oversaw training for all new hires, and ensured my team's impact continued to expand across the department to aid others with their analysis efforts.
