This committee and its members are tasked with assessing the effectiveness of mathematics and science education interventions in South African schools.

With the support of the Quality Assurance of Assessment Unit, the Assessment Standards Committee:- Provides guidance to the Quality Assurance of Assessment Unit (QAA) on matters relating to its work in establishing, maintaining and improving the standard and quality of assessments for the qualifications on the General and Further Education and Training Qualifications Framework.- Provides guidance to Council on all matters related to assessment standards and statistical research aimed at establishing and improving the standard and quality of assessments and examinations.- Conducts the process of standardization and moderation of internal assessment and examination results for all qualifications that Umalusi certifies.- Recommends to Council the release of results of exit qualifications certified by Umalusi.- Reviews, on a regular basis, the statistical and educational validity of the moderation and standardization policies, processes and procedures.
