Responsible for all control room operations in a 1500MW Coal Fire Power Station, NGC Liaison, assistant power trader and maintenance interface. The role of Control Person Operations is often considered the most demanding and rewarding position to hold• Synchronising 500MW generators to National Grid to a PN from our trading team or a BOAI from NGC to meet commercial and national power requirements• HV Switching operations and isolations and preparation of relevant safety documents under the Safe Systems of Work• Operation of 275Kv Apparatus for safety and operational switching, followed by preparation of relevant safety documents and RISSP's• Co-ordinating and overseeing the various contract partners on site to ensure continued safe operation of ancillary plant• Ensuring that the station performs within environmental constraints to avoid any permit breaches• Reporting of any safety incidents, public complaints, environmental breaches and relevant Perth Incident Reports in a timely and efficient manner, including any immediate actions to ensure personnel and asset safety• Responsible for the safe release and return of plant for maintenance activities

AP1 – Senior Authorised Person• Enact the role of CPS (Control Person Safety) Design isolations to achieve 'Safety from the system'• Accepting the isolation instruction from the CPS & agreeing the release of plant from operation and confirming the operational limits with the CPO• Checking that the precautions specified by the CPS are appropriate for the intended work• Instructing the AP3 to implement the specified controls through the issue of an isolation instruction & then Confirming with the AP3 that the specified controls have been effectively applied• Confirming with the appropriate CPS that safety precautions at remote locations are in place• Ensuring that safety from the system has been achieved or will be achieved when the requirements of the safety document have been completely implemented• Issuing of safety documents• Preparation and issue of isolation certificates & specify / prepare & issue other supporting safety documentation as required• Specifying in conjunction with the CPS when and how controls may be removed / reapplied during the course of the work, e.g. for testing. Specifying if a (WCD) is to be issued and/or cancelled in the presence of an AP1.• Sanctioning WCD(s) for issue and completing the WCD sanction for issue record• Cancellation of safety documents and removing controls• Verify that all associated WCDs have been cancelled with no exceptions preventing return to service• Cancelling isolation certificates and other related safety documents• At remote locations inform the appropriate CPS that safety precautions can be removed • Informing the CPO of the completion of work and any exceptions / restrictions on returning the plant to service• Agreeing the removal of controls with CPO

During a ten year period at Fiddlers Ferry, I started as a graduate apprentice from ICI Chemical & Polymers in Electrical and Control & Instrumentation.I had varying roles and duties which included:- • R&M activities in both electrical and C&I disciplines• Outage works including main turbine tripping tests in conjunction with NGC• Installation and commissioning of a full DCS suite for the main plant control room, removing the existing “Hard Desk”• Co-ordination and implementation of commissioning of new Bio-Mass installation• HV Testing and nomination to Authorised Person under SSE Safety Rules (C.E.G.B)• Writing and managing the maintenance contracts associated with ancillary areas of plant such as sulphur injection plant, electrode boilers amongst others.• Writing technical specifications and submitting proposals for plant modifications and seeing them through to completion, ensuring they stayed within time scale and to budget• Successful implementation of an in house Quality Assurance system, to help reduce failures and create a historic database for future route cause analysis
