Responsible for the management and technical direction of research projects for the Performance Coatings Division, including coordinating and managing the research of technical experts from a range of scientific disciplines, including Chemistry, Polymer Science, Metallurgy and Material Science disciplines. Role includes seeking new business opportunities and implementing projects to exploit these, design and execution of research programs to address business needs within a stage-gate process, working across Chemicals and Coatings business units as well as external organisations, trained in project management, being an enthusiastic technical expert across the research group, legal and intellectual property management and HSE for the laboratory. Current responsibilities also include position as Visiting Academic at the University of Manchester.

Design, resource and implementation of research projects to address the long term technical needs of AkzoNobel’s Powders Coatings business unit. As an expert in catalysis and organic synthesis my role was to create and manage research projects to address the needs of the Business Unit. Responsibilities included management of a team of scientists and portfolio management of projects both internal and collaborative.

Research into the development of new technologies for use in corrosion protection and chemical resistant coatings, transfer of these new technologies into the product development laboratories and continued technical support. Also, resulted in the filling of several major patents for AkzoNobel, thus demonstrating the innovative nature of this work.
