About Matthew Varney

I am a driven individual with a desire to see the companies I work for, the individuals I work with, and myself succeed. Graduating from Illinois State University in May of 2016 with a bachelor's of science in Mass Media with a focus in Radio, I have had the opportunity to work at WZND for nearly a year and a half. I have built a strong foundation in news gathering in politics, community issues and sports as well as honed my skills in color commentary in multiple sports.Additionally, I host and produce a podcast known as Expert Opinion. A sports opinion show, Expert Opinion looks at some of the most talked about current topics in the sports world. Through Expert Opinion I have been able to practice my ability to prepare and research on larger scale topics which have been very useful in the WZND newsroom.When not entrenched in the world of broadcasting, I enjoy relaxing with a book (sometimes in the realm of fantasy such as Game of Thrones and sometimes in the realm of philosophy such as The Prince), catching up on some of the most talked about shows, or following my favorite sports teams.
