My name is Matthew Veerasammy and I am a Sophomore at Emory University double majoring in Political Science and Religion on the pre-law track. Throughout my academic career from being an alumnus of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School to my current presence in Emory University’s undergraduate program, I have acquired a passion for having a future in both the law/political and consulting field. I anticipate continuing my education after Emory at a law school to enter my dreams of becoming a lawyer. As a devoted, diligent, dependable, focused, organized, and passionate student, I hope to utilize the multitude of skillsets that I have had to privilege to acquire to apply to the world of politics, business, & the environment. I take great pride in breaking barriers to allow individuals the ability to be empowered within my community, moreover being a valuable resource to others. My integrity and leadership are the receipt of my proactive competence.I am a proud Indo-Guyanese Caribbean who attempts to preserve the culture of my ancestors while also breaking stereotypes. My admiration for the environment and my fascination for the law has influenced me in seeking a future as an environmental lawyer and then perhaps an elected official (senator/congressman) who is able to make effective change in contributing to a cleaner Earth. My activism for the environment has been shown through my past experiences and commitments to this day. I also think it is imperative as a citizen and human being to give back to local communities especially those who are underprivileged. From being the founder of VERAJ to my personal mentorship, I have made it a priority to give back to those who lack the necessities we take granted for. I not only appreciate every opportunity I have but to the best of my ability try to improve my abilities from diverse working environments. My qualifications, certifications, experiences, and dedication attest to my unwavering standard of me my work ethic. A pledge to optimize my capabilities and deliver nothing short of excellence. This is my core principle in having a delegate-like mentality when consulting or approaching politics, I aim to showcase my skillset and adaptability with the same objective of effectively contributing to assisitng others to reach their fullest potential with strategic guidance and support.
