Clients in the care of BairnCroft Residential Services are typically referred and mandated due to criminal history or difficult behaviors. In the role of Behavioral Counsellor performed the following duties:● Establishing rapport and relationships with clients, families, administrative and medical staff to support the best client outcomes.● Making referrals to medical, legal, and other services.● Advocated for Inuit and First Nations clients in conjunction with Nunavut placement agencies.● Assessing client’s state of mental health.● Discussing medical options and client prognosis.● Applying cognitive-behavioral methods using ABC interventions to dissuade self-harm and de-escalate tense situations. ● Using communication techniques such as Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) to reduce tension in clients and prevent incidents caused by client conflicts with treatment or house rules. ● Administering client medications.● Maintaining client’s privacy and autonomy. ● Managing and advocating for social and financial resources.● C.
