I have extensive experience of physical activity-based research and evaluation across various populations. My PhD thesis provided an evaluation of a community-based intervention grounded in Motivational Interviewing that aimed to improve physical activity and mental wellbeing. He manages a four tiered evaluation approach including data collection, analysis and reporting. This approach allows different segmentation of data across target groups, different areas, and between activities. Research Officer
Matthew is a Research Officer at the ukactive Research Institute. His role focuses on the original research and evaluation of physical activity interventions, as well as supporting on all projects across the ukactive Research Institute. Matthew currently leads on the evaluation of Buckinghamshire County Council’s physical activity initiative ‘Active Bucks’, which looks to increase physical activity levels across the county, as well as working closely with ukactive’s Let’s Get Moving project providing research and evaluation expertise. In addition, Matthew also supports on the large scale evaluation of Coca-Cola ParkLives, a free initiative which aims to get one million people active in local parks and green space by 2020, and the training of health care professionals to deliver a primary care based intervention to increase physical activity levels and positively change behaviour.
Research Assistant
Matthew took a key role on the second phase of the Physical Activity Promising Practice Collation project, a piece of work commissioned by Public Health England, by providing individualised feedback to 952 programmes and interventions across the country. During this Matthew gained an excellent working knowledge of the Nesta Standards of Evidence and the requirements needed to meet each level. As part of the ukactive Research Institute Matthew provides support and input on all research projects.
