After years of applying my knowledge and experience related to MRI in the clinical environment, I have returned to my roots in academics as an Assistant Professor in the Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Sciences program in the Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences department within UAB’s School of Health Professions. Currently my teaching focus revolves around all things related to the diagnostic imaging modalities of MRI and Nuclear Medicine: MRI Physics, Instrumentation, Sequences and Implementation, in both the clinic and the lab, as well as Radiopharmacy. I am still exploring research areas related to MRI and PET imaging as they apply to the study and understanding of the human brain and hope to join the robust neuroimaging community here at UAB in their efforts to push both basic and pre-clinical research lines forward. My previous research included efforts to understand how the human oculomotor system supports the rapid and precise eye movements in 3-D space in response to visual stimuli. By developing functional MRI protocols and using them to illuminate the cortical networks underlying these movements in species close to us, we established pathways and tools to further investigate, in a non-invasive way, the organization and functional processes by which our brains create the rich sensory, motor and emotional lives we all experience.I am also still currently working in the MRI clinical space in a specialized MRI facility devoted to serving those who are unable to take advantage of modern superconducting MRI scanners found in most hospitals and clinics, either due to claustrophobia or physical limitations.I am open to collaboration so please feel free to reach out to me if you feel there may be some overlap of our interests.
