PRA model support for VC Summer Nuclear Station.• FRANX modelling oversight – Investigating fire scenario CCDF results for their impact on the overall plant CDF and their accuracy in being run by the software. • PHOENIX integration – Support for the combination of all EPRI software to monitor the plant failure and risk impacts on plant maintenance.

Fire safety model upgrades based on NUREG/CR-6850 (EPRI 1011989) for Fessenheim and Bugey CP0/900MW power plants. • Fire propagation modelling – Modelled fire risk-significant rooms with EDF MAGIC fire propagation simulation software. Considered all potential accident scenarios based on fire source specifications (location, dimensions, etc.) and their effects on targets (components, cables, and safety equipment prone to fire damage).• Human reliability (HRA) update – human actions to mitigate plant events were analyzed and filtered based on their necessity to prevent fire-related initiating events or fire-related precursors or post-IE consequences. RiskSpectrum fault tree (FT) models were modified to incorporate the conditional core damage frequency (CCDF) reflected upon this additional risk. • Technical Notes reflected the component and cable fire ignition frequencies based on the results of the equipment group analysis studies performed in conjunction with EDF data. HRA reports were under development pending further review of potential risk-significant HRA events. Additional support on flooding safety reported risk-significant walls, ceilings, and floors which may not be qualified to retain water due to traversing features in the walls or wall durability.

Fire safety model upgrades based on NUREG/CR-6850 (EPRI 1011989) for Doel and Tihange nuclear power plants. • Component and Cable Selection –Evaluated P&IDs and electrical drawings to determine the fire risk-significant cables and components. Performed walk-downs to determine proximity and dimensions of found equipment, as well as investigate any potential additional hazards or missing information. Developed risk models through RiskSpectrum CCDF analysis. Mapped plant data on equipment location and proximity in a Belgian software called IOS (Information On the Spot), which is a virtual plant mapper that can easily identify equipment and its relationship to everything in the power plant.• Technical Reports reflected the incorporated risk from fire components and signified which were of higher, medium, or lower risk based on risk ranking principles.

Design analysis for plant system and equipment upgrades on Diablo Canyon.• Digital Equipment – Developed technical reports on new post-accident monitoring (PAM) recorders, flow meter calibrators, and digital instrumentation. Reported uncertainty, vendor information, and other necessary data needed to document the updated and increased reliability of the new equipment. • Project design changes for the removal of obsolete, heavy equipment. Developed proposals for changes and coordinated with other engineering disciplines and utility clients for feedback to determine the ideal solutions.• Plant walk-downs – Safety-related equipment inspections for fire or seismic hazards from surrounding targets and sources.• Thermohydarulic efficiency studies conducted on the various systems to investigate pipe head losses and pump efficiencies to determine if better configurations would be preferential.

• Design Control Document Development for Chapter 19, “PRA and Severe Accident Evaluation.” Developed and modified key insights and assumptions, system diagrams, cutset lists, plant operating state definitions, and risk evaluations.• Licensing correspondence supporting RAI responses on low power shutdown, maintenance rule, hydrogen accumulation, and other key issues. Liaison between MHI, the NRC, the utility, and other parties in phone conferences.
• PRA Model development in Tokyo with the MHI risk group using RiskSpectrum.

Created benchmark reference designs of acoustically tensioned metastable fluid detector (ATMFD) with COMSOL software to build to test the ideal detector chamber material, dimensions, internal fluid, piezoelectric transducer position and fluid frequency for sensitivity. The calculated pressure profiles obtained were tested for confirmation with LabView software. the best detector model (one that has the largest area of negative-pressure sensitivity, prone for detecting particles).
