Build Philosophy EngineerAirbus Group Dec 2011 - Oct 2015Working on the A350 project. Leading edge build establishment and process definition. Interpreting the design intent and conveying this information to the planning team so that it can be written in to operating instructions -
Manufacturing EngineerTerma A/S Feb 2011 - Dec 2011 -
Manufacturing EngineerMorson Projects May 2007 - Feb 2011Airbus A350 Demobox 2 Manufacturing Engineer / Shop Support Engineer – Involved with producing ASO’s within SAP Engineers Work Bench for the entire build of the DB2 wing box. Process included structure build, shimming operations and skin drilling phases. My current role has evolved to include hands on shop support in every aspect of the Demobox build – Overcoming problems in structure buid, gap management and general process adherence and process approval for several new build methods.Airbus A350 Demobox 2 Capability Engineering – Role involved the development and introduction of small automation machines called Flex-tracks. These machines are based around a one shot process and the idea is to basically locate the machine to the cover, press start and the machine does the rest.Airbus A350 Demobox 1 – Role involved writing the ASO’s for the first horizontal wing build in the Broughton facility. The ASO’s were created in excel as I had been tasked with creating an “Idiot Proof” process of putting the wing box together in the horizontal jig. The ASO’s they were a combination of written and pictorial instructions. The main idea was to eliminate the need for the operator to reference any document than the one he had in front of him. I.e. the operator did have to cross reference any other ABP or MI specs to complete the task in hand. The ASO also incorporated the REBA (Rapid Entire Body Assessment) scores and other related H&S working for the individual tasks. In addition to each operation i had to perform a FMEA (Failure Modes Effect Analysis) report on each one so as to help eliminate any possible H&S issue and engineer those out. Airbus A400M - Planning FTI installations using the Engineers Work Bench function within SAP for the A400M. Working as part of a planning off load team based in house at Morson Projects dealing with initial issue of drawings and also incorporating any possible drawing change notifications. -
Manufacturing EngineerBae Systems Sep 2006 - May 2007Involved in the manufacture of the test aft fuselages for the JSF (Joint Strike Fighter) which is a Lockheed Martin and BAe Systems joint venture. Worked as part of a small team planning the installation of the fuel pipes, air cooling pipes and FTI/GTI gauge installations in and around the aft fuse, as a part of this I was responsible for configuring the bill of material for the individual aircraft, that involved working within HMS CAPP planning tool, manipulating the assembly trees to move the correct parts and affectivities to the relevant planning instructions so that the right parts get allocated and assembled at the correct time. The planning of various installations called for interrogation of the assembly models which are in the Catia V4 environment. Whilst planning also had to take into account different variants of the aircraft and write multi affectivity planning processes as the first aircraft necessarily wont be the correct build instruction for the forth aircraft. Also had to corroborate information with Lockheed Martins PM System (Product Management), Metaphase, this system manages all data and is used to get the correct issues of all parts used in assemblies. Also attended all the relevant training courses whilst based there. -
Manufacturing EngineerAirbus Sep 2005 - Sep 2006Working within stage 00 on the A380 project gained invaluable hands on experience using other planning systems such as PEGS and SAP. Also planned the freighter variant of the A380. This entailed planning creation on PEGS, both at detail level and Assembly creation. I also had experience using SAP, with both eWQN (electronic Works Query Notes), and eEQN (electronic Engineering Query Notes). I gained more Catia V5 time, interrogating the assembly models and also creating fictitious assemblies within V5 for interrogation purposes. Also created shop floor manuals that state general safe working practices and a “how to” guide to various aspects of Stage 00. These include lifting and handling of all skin panels and stringers, and also measurement of all panels. Completed the PRIMES ME drawing review/signoff course. -
Various Engineering RolesBhw Components (Part Of Hampson Group) 1997 - Sep 2005Manufacturing Engineer on the Eclipse 500 Empennage. Roles included writing the build sequences and planning’s for the Vertical/Horizontal Stabilizers, Rudder and Elevators supporting the aircraft build and conditioning of detail parts. The Eclipse 500 is a new 6-seater jet. My role involved going through a DFMA (Design For Manufacture & Assembly) process with other members of the build team. The build rate is expected to reach 1500 aircraft sets per year (at full rate), therefore we had to adopt car manufacture philosophies and transferring this to an aircraft build, such as using robot’s for skin drilling and installing and fastening blind fasteners.Design interrogation using both Catia V5 and Unigraphics NX3.Modelling and Drafting experience in both Catia V5 and Unigraphics NX2/NX3Additional Aircraft projects include – Tornado projects, T-45, Hawker Jet, Shorts brothers, Various Salmesbury, Chadderton and Chester Projects including A380 stretch form skinsApprentice Engineer My apprenticeship has enabled me to have a wide variety of training across many aspects of the aircraft industry.Assembly FitterWhilst working in the fitting area, was involved with the manufacture of the Chester Hawker 125 frames. These were the individual ring sections that run along the plane. Involved in the production of the rear frames, also spent time on the track rib production, as well as other small assemblies.CAD/CAM AssistantRole in the cad office was to aid in the production of CNC programs, these were used to produce a large variety of components from sources such as Iges. Also had to produce Iges data by means of digitizing from templates, lofts and drawings etc.
