The role of a passenger service agent largely revolves around face to face customer service. We are the first people that a passenger comes in to contact with who relates to the airline with whom they are travelling with. We must be familiar with those procedures relating to the checking in and boarding of passengers as laid down by the CAA and individual airline. We must be able to work well as part of a team as well as individually. We had to know how to use the check in and boarding computer systems confidently. Whilst working for Flight Support, I was part of the FlyBe team, we were required to have extensive knowledge of this product relating to frequent flyer incentives, seating plans and destinations, to name but a few. Delays in this industry do happen and when they do, it is our responsibility as passenger service agents to help passengers the best we can by rebooking them on other flights, finding alternative transport arrangements, offload and help passengers collect luggage. In this job role, you do come across people from all walks of life, i.e. deaf and blind people, unaccompanied minors, people with mental and physical disabilities or people who's first language isn't english.
