I completed an MBA at Judge Business School which gave me a wide range of business skills to complement my medical degree.I still enjoy working as a doctor in Auckland, having a fellowship in Urgent Care, but I now spend the majority of my time as a healthcare consultant.In October 2016 I became the Principle Clinical Lead for Synergia, who I have worked with as an associate for the last 5 years. With over half my time now spent with the consulting company, I can be involved in a much wider range of projects, and supporting each member of the team based throughout Australasia and the Philippines with any clinical problems, insight and even tricky medical acronyms!!The main strength that I bring to my consulting is experience collecting and analysing large datasets from all of the stakeholders in a system. This includes the emergency departments, private specialists, general practices, urgent care clinics, ambulance services, telephone triage/advice lines and doctors in cars. Dealing with the different data points from various patient management systems and then aggregating them to make meaningful clinical decisions is a particular skill of mine.I am strongly involved in creating indicators to measure quality within systems, having worked with the HQSC, DHBs, PHOs, Hospices, Auckland Patient Afterhours Urgent Access SLAT, ACC, St John and Whakarongorau (previously Homecare Medical) on this. The latter employs me specifically to work on clinical quality data, as well as supporting the emergency triage part of their business. My entrepreneurial streak, galvanised by one of the papers I completed in the MBA, still is nurtured by the development of an online differential diagnosis creator for medical students, doctors and senior nurses, which I have been working on in my spare time for a few years. It is currently being used in a piece of research with the University of Auckland medical school, to support them to organise their thinking before graduating.
