About Matthew Orlando
I am a changer. Analyzing my surroundings, seeking ways to make experiences better for myself and everyone around me, I am not content doing the same thing over, expecting different results. Solving problems is my pastime but true fulfillment comes from finding problems yet unseen. My education was self-directed, though we are all standing on the shoulders of giants. Familiar with game design, machine learning, electronics, aviation, computer graphics, linguistics, signal processing, and more, learning is my primary source of entertainment. In my spare time, I’ll fully immerse myself in some new topic until I understand it broadly and deeply, then move on to some other pursuit of knowledge.I am a starter. While I am proud of the products I deliver, the initial investigation, design and development are when I feel like work is play. It's thrilling to discover the unknowns, figure out how to know them, lay down patterns for future development, and adjust course as needs evolve. When there is a clear path with little opportunity for deviation from a routine, I begin yearning for the next challenge.I am principled. My top priority is “first do no harm.” Whether changes to the code, or the company as a whole and its impact on the lives of its employees and customers, I will always advocate for the greater good. Second to that is “write code for humans.” Minimizing the number of steps between reading code and correctly understanding what that code means is important for all aspects of development. Our future selves will thank us.
Listed skills include C++, Game Development, Lua, Video Games, and 37 others.
