As Team Lead of the Digital Development team at Dix Communications I led an agile transformation effort that resulted in strong collaboration amongst business and developers and higher quality releases delivered on time. This involved mentoring developers in eXtreme programming practices such as TDD/BDD and educating business on Agile methodologies. My day to day responsibilities at Dix Communications included the facilitation of planning sessions, consensus building, and the architecting and implementation of software solutions.The teams primary focus over my last year there was the development and delivery of a custom content management system. The CMS interfaced with a newly installed editorial software system significantly reducing effort required for editorial staff to publish content online. The new CMS also afforded 99.9% uptime with only a 1% error rate. The CMS even allowed for a high degree of customization to suit the needs of 30+ distinct publications. The CMS was built iteratively and the minimal viable product was launched after only 3 months of development. The CMS and it’s supporting services were all deployed using Amazon’s cloud infrastructure leveraging EC2, S3, SQS, ELBs and Route53. New features and enhancements were released every 2-3 weeks.
