Education is like a boomerang for me. No matter how many times I throw it and walk away it always comes back and hits me in the face.I always thought my dream was to be a PE teacher for some prestigious grammar school in England or a luxurious academy in Dubai, sipping on my filtered americano before heading to the battlefield of the tarmac on the school tennis courts. It seemed logical given my 1st class degree (BSC Hons) in sports coaching. I initially dabbled with it and did some county coaching. I even sought out a 2 week work placement in a PE department in Dubai. However, lack of concrete opportunity dragged me away, and I fell into hospitality leadership.Eventually travel came calling (cue boomerang moment number one). I completed my CELTA and embarked on a life teaching English in Vietnam.It wasn't sport but the teaching belief was reignited. The consequent four years accumulated over 6000 hours of classroom experience, promotions and the ability to create positive change, impacting the lives of hundreds of young aspiring Vietnamese students. I learnt to marry professionalism with vivacious character.In time, my desire to travel resurfaced. I left Vietnam as senior teacher with a team of 12 in good hands. Welcome Australia! Teaching to start with was great but urging for growth I took up a direct sales position for a small company in Melbourne. Face to face sales wasn't easy, it required self-determination, confidence and a resilience for rejection. A new environment for me meant fresh challenges yet In 18 months I raised over 550k for the client, appeared in the top 10 sales reps for country on 3 occasions (in a field of sales weapons), and became a sales leader/trainer....Boomerang moment 2! Different industry, still teaching/coaching, I guess this is what I am great at after all!The process was quick. January 2021 I had my SCITT interview, June I was home and September I started my training. Here I am a year later, QTS+PGCE and relishing the opportunities which await.Ultimately my experience has taken me around the world through various industries but four consistencies remained:1: Success, through work ethic, desire for knowledge and attitude.2: Promotion being recognised as a key team member or leader in the workplace.3: Education, learning skills and seeking new knowledge to instil/pass on to others.4: A growth mindset.I've learned to relish the process, the outcomes are now falling into place.
