Matthew Barhydt joined Acheson Doyle Partners Architects (ADP) in 2005 and became a Principalin 2010. Matthew led a significant development of the firm’s practice inhistoric preservation and rehabilitation projects, residential projects and governmental agency work.As a Principal, he took part in the management of the firm and he oversaw all phases of projects, from conceptual design through construction administration.Notable projects directed by Matthew included the design of a new LEED Platinum Certified GiftPavilion on Liberty Island, the renovation of the dining room and restaurant at Ellis Island, therenovation of a 41-story rental building into luxury condominiums, and the historic restoration andrehabilitation of the National Park Service’s Floyd Bennett Field 1930s airport terminal building inBrooklyn, NY. He was a leader of the historic rehabilitation of the Church of St. Brigid-St. Emericin New York City, and the renovation of a former school into the Sheen Center for Thought andCulture, a cultural arts center.Matthew oversaw all of the firm’s projects with the National Park Service, the Port Authority ofNew York and New Jersey, and the New York City Department of Design and Construction. Hecoordinated all of the firm’s work in preparing technical reports and other documents for developers’ condominium conversion projects, and developed a seminar for the law firm Holland & Knight entitled “The Role of the Architect in the Condominium and Cooperative Conversion Legal Process.”Matthew has written professionally for Progressive Architecture Magazine and for Oculus Magazine.He has taught at Parsons School of Design and The New School in New York City. Matthew hasserved as a judge for The New School’s “New Challenge” annual ideas competition.
