Lean Manufacturing Leader (National)
CurrentIn my role as the Lean Manufacturing Leader for the US LBM, my overarching goal is to improve the performance of the manufacturing locations within the portfolio. To do this I employ many different strategies and tactics, specifically choosing what will be the most impactful for the situation at hand.To be more concrete, the actions I find to be the most successful and thus where I focus most of my effort are as follows: • Partner with leaders to formulate their vision of operational excellence for their location, and then work to make that vision a reality. • Connect and unite leaders across the organization to solve common problems, challenges, and drive innovation.• Build infrastructure that gives visibility into operational performance (metric creation, formulation, and implementation). • Plan and facilitate large and small group events with the goal of harmonizing efforts across a business or market. • Support and mentor leaders at various levels of the organization with the tools and tactics to help lead positive organizational change. • Develop change management plans - and then take action on those plans. • Create custom training solutions and facilitate the implementation of those solutions.• New location layout and design (optimizing for safety, efficient flow)• Analyze performance, create operational improvement plans, and assist in the implementation of that strategy/plan.To best perform these actions, I either travel to specific locations to give a focused approach or assist remotely if it makes sense for the project. Most often, a mixture of both.
Continuous Improvement Leader (Midwest Region)
As a Regional Continuous Improvement Leader for US LBM, my actions were focused on improving the operational capabilities and efficiency of distribution, retail, and manufacturing locations of the midwest region. The main tools used to achieve this goal were positive culture change, process improvement/continuous improvement tools and tactics, and mentoring other continuous improvement mind folks. Additionally, as a Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma I was focused on enterprise wide initiatives that would spur the adoption of continuous improvements methodologies, and philosophies. Actions taken in this role• Lead and mentor continuous improvement projects of various types (5S, DMAIC, Kaizen events, JDI, DMADV, ADKAR / Change Management).• Building and implementing Lean Six Sigma training programs across the network. Training over 3000 individuals in a combination of in person and remote class. • Mentor and lead Yellow Belt and Green Belt students through continuous improvement project work. • Location flow analysis and location layout optimization.• Development of the continuous improvement brand for the company.• Creation of standard operating procedures.• Data collection and mining.• Custom tool building in Smart Sheets and Microsoft Excel. In this role I travel to specific locations throughout the midwest, and worked remotely depending on the need.
Operations Associate
As an operations associate, I was a “boots on the ground” value creator for Wisconsin Building Supply (Part of US LBM). I am very glad I spent about 5 years doing so as it helped me gain a clear view of what it means to be an associate at the company. This role required long hours, working in the elements, and was physically very demanding, but gave me a perspective I cherish and will never forget. The specific tasks I performed in the role were as follows:• Driving and operation of heavy equipment such as boom crane trucks, flat beds, and box trucks (CDL Class B). • Facilitate and participate in continuous improvement projects (Kaizen events, 5S, DMAIC). • Delivering of building materials including but not limited to drywall, shingles, lumber, and special order building items.• Understand and comply with all DOT and OSHA regulations and requirements as it pertained to the role. • Use of cloud based programs to dispatch commercial motor vehicles.• Communication between sales teams and trucking/yard teams to assist in the best possible outcome.• Gaining and maintaining building industry specific knowledge.• Receiving material from vendors.
Chief Operating Officer/ Co-Owner
In this role as CO-Owner, Operator, and Chief Operations Officer for a boutique fitness facility, I performed the following tasks.• Strategy development and execution focused on top and bottom line growth.• Development and management of standard operating procedures.• Content creation based marketing - writing articles, recording videos. • Branding development and management. • Small business accounting and book keeping. • Cash flow and expense management.• Creation of future products and services focused on company growth. • Facility design and build out (we out-grew our location 4 times over the 6 years). One of the accomplishments I'm most proud of in this role was the fact that my partners and I grew the business from nothing but an idea, to a 6000 sq ft facility without the accumulation of debt.
Customer Solutions - Sales
This was a role focused on selling and educating on a web based safety management tool created by JJ Keller to help safety and DOT professionals stay compliant with OSHA and DOT regulations. I would cold call businesses using a consultative approach, looking to understand their needs, and if a partnership would be beneficial for both parties, recommend a specific solution. This role was tremendous in developing my ability to actively listen, having a conversation with just about anyone, and having the courage to do sales. Some of the specific tasks I performed in this role were:• Use a consultative approach to establish trusting relationships with clients with the goal of assisting them in finding a solution to their specific compliance need.• Present J. J. Keller’s web-based DOT, OSHA, and EPA solutions to clients. • Navigate and manage multiple computer interfaces simultaneously, including but not limited to HPA, CRM/SAP, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Adobe applications. • Maintain an ambitious level of productivity to ensure profitability and self-growth. • Generate leads from cold calling conversations. • Sales process development.• Sales cycle and pipeline management.• Continue education on OSHA and DOT regulations as to provide the highest quality information.
Manufacturing Shift Lead
As a Manufacurting Shift Lead for Facility Logistics Services (FLS) I lead a team of roughly 15 individuals at a Kimberly Clark Non-wovens manufacuring facilty. The goal of this role was maximize production capabilities across the team for the location. In addition to leading the team, I was also a “Utility” meaning I was trained to move between the different production environments and assist where needed. My duties in this role were as follows:• Team management and administration to meet production needs. • Vacation planning, interviews, training, and shift planning.• Maintain an outstanding relationship between F.L.S. and Kimberly Clark (partner companies) using high level communication skills to help the partnership grow and profit.• Learn and maintain a high level of ability on all internal production processes from start to finish to ensure quality product was being produced and team was working with the most efficiency.• Equipment troubleshooting and repair (TPM).• Logging of production yields and corresponding metrics. • 5s execution and daily participation.• Recommending of machine enhancements and continuous improvements.
