Experience in restorative justice, youth engagement, technology development, environment assessment, and SCY’s policy agenda. In partnerships with the National Institutes of Health and hundreds of public as well as private stakeholders; SCY’s goal is to establish, enhance, and maintain connections between community organizations, researchers, and funders to provide an all-around approach to strengthening youth, families, and communities in Chicago.• Co-facilitated IRB youth research assistant training program for Summer 2014; attended by 20 youth research assistants.• Facilitated group discussions for 7 to 10 participants; interfaced with community leaders from various organizations.

Student Ambassador for the Master of Public Health (MPH). Responsible for answering questions, facilitating discussions with prospective students, and act as a resource to all graduate students within the program.

Assist project director, program manager, and project team with tasks regarding the successful implementation of the Safe Communities for Illinois Grant (SCIL). Develop, organize, and implement strategies for community based organizations to use in order to reduce vehicular accidents, injuries, and fatalities in Chicago.

Project IMHOTEP is an 11-week summer research program designed for students interested in public health careers with a focus on reducing health disparities in the US. This program increases knowledge, develops skills, and builds diversity in the public health sector. Received training from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) officials and attended multiple conference sessions at the CDC in Atlanta, GA. Shortly thereafter, the externship began at CDC/NIOSH headquarters in Spokane, WA to work closely with engineers in the Office of Mining Safety and Health Research (OMSHR) to conduct research to reduce the incidence of accidents, injuries and fatalities at deep underground mine sites in the Pacific Northwest.

As a Resident Assistant, I demonstrated investment in the overall growth and welfare of each resident. Responsible for facilitating the development of community among my residents and the hall, and developing an environment that fosters and supports residents’ academic success. • Assist residents with personal, relational, social, cultural, emotional, and academic concerns while ensuring privacy, sharing with Community Director, and referring students to appropriate resources. • This includes recognizing problems and potential problems.• Celebrate student academic success and actively intervene with academic challenges.• Provide opportunities for resident’s academic exploration while developing an environment conducive to study.• Establish a rapport with residents so they feel comfortable approaching me with ideas and concerns.• Made students aware of their roles and responsibilities in the community by explaining and utilizing the Policies & Procedures for Hall Living.• Enforce policies consistently and without bias or malice.• Serve as a representative, liaison, advisor, committee member, and other appropriate roles.• Serve as a role model for residents.

Rigorous 12 week summer program underscoring the breadth and importance of public health as a career choice. Attended orientation and received training at Johns Hopkins University that led to hands-on experience working to benefit people in culturally diverse and economically disadvantaged communities. Under the guidance and supervision of mentoring, the program included public health coursework, research field experience in Los Angeles, California regarding public health policy that addressed the risk for developmental, behavioral, and health needs of the Los Angeles community.
