Bpm Software Development Intern
Engaged in full stack development on IBM’s Business Process Management (BPM) and Workflow Center software. Implemented various REST APIs using a combination of Java, Swagger and SQL, allowing users to easily interact with and utilize the BPM software. Utilized React to design and develop components for the Workflow Center UI. Designed a Selenium based test framework and led testing for the new Workflow Center software. Responsible for creating and maintaining automation test buckets.
Software Developer
The App Labb, Toronto – Summer 2017Reporting to the CEO and Head of Marketing, I worked in an agile team environment as a Software Developer responsible for the development of several applications throughout the full software development life cycle including the new corporate web site as well as a demo application for Augmented Reality. This included work using WordPress and a number of third party themes and plugins as well as customized coding to effect specific corporate objectives. My initial work focused on competitive analysis reports that lead to the development of an overall strategic framework and site layout. These involved analyzing the corporate objectives, researching the internet for ideas and best practices, then developing an approach and work flow for the process. I then led the programming and testing of the site on a cross platform, responsive basis. I worked in a team of 5 people and was responsible for the overall set up and programming components. My end work product included a working prototype, a working corporate website and a report summarizing my activities and providing a transition document.
Software Developer
Reporting to the VP Product Development, I worked in a agile team environment as a Software Developer responsible for the development of the application throughout the full software development life cycle. This included work across the Microsoft stack in the visual layer, front end, back end, database and voice integration.
Software Developer
Reporting to the CTO, I worked across the full stack of the application. I was primarily responsible for unit and integrated testing, bug reporting, software enhancements and post roll out quality assurance.
Instructor In Training
In my 12 years of snowboarding, I have taken lessons, achieved level 7 grading and competed but the greatest joy was in teaching young people to learn a new sport. I taught children ages 7 to 14 with skills ranging from beginner to intermediate. Teaching at this age has taught me new leadership, motivation and engagement skills; there is a huge challenge in getting kids to overcome their fear, pain and soreness as they struggle to learn a new sport or a new trick.
Sensei
In my 9 years of studying and teaching Shotokan Karate, I achieved an expert level black belt, won a series of awards at both the local and at the provincial championships, but the most gratifying was becoming a Sensei (teacher). I taught classes ranging from children age 6 through to adults. Both age ranges provided strong teachings in leadership as the approaches of working with young children around motivation, discipline and simplification differ greatly than techniques that work in teaching people 40+ years older. Overall, karate has increased my level of self-confidence, discipline and helped me to learn valuable leadership lessons in responsibility, organization, collaboration, discipline, focus and perseverance.
Summer Camp Counselor
I worked as a karate camp counsellor with children ages 4 to 12. I was involved in all camp activities including teaching an extensive range of martial arts (beyond Shotokan Karate), fitness activities, friendship / trust building games and arts and crafts.
