About Matthew Chernesky, Mpa
I earned my BA in Political Science from Kent State University in 2017, where I actively participated in student government and collaborated with the administration on various sociopolitical initiatives. This experience ignited my passion for community engagement, leading me to serve as Secretary of the County Young Democrats and contribute as a member of the city's Fair Housing Board.Relocating to Florida, I pursued a Master of Public Administration at the University of South Florida in 2020. During this time, I served as a graduate assistant and played a vital role as a Finance/Operations Associate on congressional campaigns, notably supporting Adam Hattersley (FL-15) and Margaret Good (FL-16).Beyond academia, I dedicated myself to diverse advocacy roles, serving on the boards of the county Diversity Advisory Council, Hillsborough Young Democrats, and the Tampa Bay Diversity Chamber of Commerce Board. My commitment extended to the national level as a member of the Democratic National Committee LGBT Advisory Board. In 2020, I co-founded nenos, a startup tech business aimed at creating a community-driven social media platform. Recognizing the need for a positive online space without the constraints of a profit-driven agenda, we reorganized nenos as a nonprofit in fall 2023, and I assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer in January 2024.Currently, I am the Senior Manager of Financial Stability at United Way Suncoast, where I focus on breaking generational poverty through programmatic management, providing financial coaching, asset development, employee financial wellness initiatives, and free public webinars about financial topics alongside a panel of experts.
