About Matthew Cooper
I have a keen interest in geomatics, conservation, and sustainability. Currently working at the Canadian Wildlife Federation, I am a GIS Technician who works on freshwater fish passage projects such as the Canadian Aquatic Barriers Database, and Watershed Connectivity Remediation Planning projects across several watersheds in British Columbia.I have experience with several different GIS software, data analysis techniques and data management. I am comfortable using software such as ArcGIS Pro and QGIS to complete geospatial analysis on both vector and raster data. I have experience using Python in Google Colab to analyze remote sensing data. Additionally, I have experience using PostgreSQL to manage spatial databases and extract data for further analysis.I have excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills. I am an effective communicator, who is not afraid to ask questions. While working as a Park Warden, communication was my most important tool, as I was working in a team to solve problems, resolve conflicts and conduct environmental law enforcement in a fair and efficient manner. This allowed me to gain a lot of experience working in a team setting, but I am also very competent working with minimal supervision when completing tasks. I have a love for the outdoors, hiking, camping and exploring, which has made me very passionate about conservation and the environment. In my career I am dedicated to protecting Canada's natural resources and contributing to a more sustainable society.
