A single life event altered my career trajectory.I always knew I would build a career in healthcare. In college, I thought that meant becoming a hospital CEO.After obtaining a Masters in Healthcare Administration, I joined a large health system. While it may be ideal for folks who enjoy red tape and regulations, I didn’t quite feel the fit I thought I would. Which was too bad since I can’t say enough good things about the people I worked with.I recognized a desire to focus more on healthcare prevention and joined a health insurance company (or the dark side from my hospital friends). In addition to using the operations mindset from my role at the hospital, a wonderful mentor gave me additional experience in strategy, telehealth, B2B2C marketing, and client success. I wasn’t a fan of the 6-to-8 week lead time for approvals (see above for red tape and regulations)And then my sister died by suicide.This devastating personal loss exposed me to the world of mental health and I knew this was what I needed to do. I have chosen to be open and vulnerable by talking about my experience with suicide. This choice has led to hundreds of meaningful conversations with others about mental health and set me on a course to be a lifelong advocate for mental health awareness and suicide prevention.This experience not only directed me to my next role, but allowed me to pivot from healthcare operations to go all-in on marketing, and that’s where I’ve found my passion.In my current role, I get to help millions of people learn about their access to mental health benefits offered through their company or health plan. I have built campaigns with measurable ROI that drive revenue, enrollment, and engagement.
