I am a professional deliverer of bad news. I spend my days saying no to suggestions and requests. My philosophy is that when I'm doing my job well, everyone on my team will be more focused and effective and so will our products. So I clear obstacles and turn down good ideas so that we can spend our time on the best ideas with the most potential. I'm a builder and creator. Whether it's creating a brand new product, developing efficient processes, remodeling part of the house, or making art, I love to produce. So I've been extremely fortunate to find myself in product management where I get to help build things every day as a career. I still have to work for a paycheck, but if I didn't, I would still be doing the same thing. Some of the things I like best about leadership and product management are: • Helping people grow and achieve success, both for themselves and for the organization as a whole • Removing obstacles, facilitating communication and providing information so that my team can focus on what they do best • Spending time with customers, digging in to understanding the problems we are in a unique position to solve • Helping team members frame problems, break them down into manageable chunks and create innovative, effective solutions • The satisfaction of talking to customers who love the products I've had the opportunity to work on During my time in product management I have worked in several industries and organizations of different sizes. This has allowed me to: • Launch 8 new products and contribute to the ongoing success of several others • Run all aspects of the product development process from identification of market opportunities, through conception, development, launch and retirement, as well as setting product vision and strategy for existing products. • Lead geographically distributed teams of up to twenty members, and work closely with supporting business groups throughout organizations, including sales, marketing, finance, engineering, and support. • Turn relationships with unhappy customers into lasting partnerships, recovering millions of dollars in revenue.
