About Matthew Dattolo
I am a recent graduate from Boston university with a major in Astronomy and a minor in Mathematics. I have a passionate interest in astronomy, data analysis, and technology. I have experience performing astrophysical research on Blazars, a particular type of black hole. I worked as a data analyst, modifying and debugging code alongside my astronomy research professor on his NSF funded project on blazars. I learned and used several coding languages such as Python and Linux to process data for astronomy research, as well as creating images of galaxies taken with telescopes. I am very interested in technology, having learned how to assemble desktop computers and am currently learning data science fundamentals. I seek work in data analytics, data analytics research, banking with information and data roles, and banking with risk analytics.

Deposit Operations Representative
• Responsible for completing daily reports for Unposted Banking Retail items and High Dollar Amount Check verification to combat and mitigate fraud and transaction processing errors• Identified and profiled various fraudulent patterns, behaviors and signatures on incoming and outgoing check deposits and withdrawals, preventing six to seven figures of customer funds per month being lost to unauthorized and erroneous transactions• Authoring and distributing procedures to resolve technical issues, support fellow Deposit Operations Specialists in improving their banking data entry skills and to better service customers, resulting in clearer pipelines for customer transaction processing being established• Performing routine quality control checks and considerations in communicating transaction processing information and data between operations management and branch employees, allowing for greater customer protections on check related matters
Pt Electronic Services Representative I
I principally provided maintenance and assistance with helping bank customers use and modify their online banking profiles, serviced transactions on the bank's general ledger, and addressed reported instances of fraud. I serviced compromised debit cards, issued stop payment orders for unauthorized transactions, worked to resolve disputes and holds experiences by customers on Zelle, and wrote over a dozen departmental procedures used in audits performed by Fiserv, a major leading financial services technology provider. I worked alongside supervisors to reform procedures in place involving technical writing. As a result of the easily accessible procedures that I had created, I was nearly doubling my customer service output than in months prior by making information more readily accessible to both myself and my colleagues.
Boston University Institute For Astrophysical Research Blazar Research Group Data Analyst
As a member of the Blazar Research Team, I analyzed flux from a set list of target blazars. I used the catalog of blazar data uploaded to NASA's SWIFT X-Ray telescope and tools from NASA’s HEAsoft software package to reduce data and create a list of flux values for the objects over time. The data I reduced would be used at a later date in assisting the Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) satellite in tracking sources of sufficiently strong blazar x-ray light emission. I observed that some of my targets either maintained the same flux over long periods of time, or rapidly varied in emission over a period as small as a week. Any of my findings would be discussed at research meetings. The overall goal of the group was to characterize the physical parameters of the blazars, with a focus on the regions near the source of jet emission. The data I worked with demonstrated that within the blazar jets a significant amount of Compton scattering occurs, making the electrons emit light at higher and higher energies. Towards the end of my time as an undergraduate, I created a streamlined procedure for future researching undergraduates who may be assigned my former role.
Publication Co-Director
General Office Clerk
As a general office clerk, my primary duties were ensuring proper filing and storage of patent and trademark files. I utilized the Attorney Information Program (AIM) application to electronically upload pending patents and trademarks for the law firm's records, granting attorneys easy and quick access to their clients' files. I was to keep intellectual property documents in the storage facilities within the office sorted and appropriately disposed of if expired. I occasionally navigated the USPTO website to check patent statuses to verify filed records were accurate.
