About Matthew Deville

I’ve been called a thoroughly analog artist living and working in a digital world. But that’s only half the story. I’m a DIY kind of guy with a drive to get things done. That’s why I taught myself to code in 1999. I’ve designed and built countless websites over the years, discussed interactions and information architecture ad nauseam, and worked with clients large and small to make the web a better place. Hours spent observing usability testing taught me that user experience takes thought, experimentation, and patience. It also taught me that some users will always be lost.Now, I consider the Web to be both a playground and a place for communication. I’m wild about thoughtfully designed experiences and intrigued by simple things like Instagram and the power of sharing. As the leader of the web team at Fifteen4, I try to empower my coworkers to grow and make decisions they can stand behind. I encourage people to keep their sense of humor and always be humble.I’m not afraid of contradictions (ask me about Walt Whitman), I love paradox, and I enjoy reading and trying to understand complicated subjects like PostStructuralism and Object-Oriented Ontology. Don’t worry, I read other things too. I really enjoyed The Flamethrowers by Rachel Kushner a couple of months back.Finally, I’m a visual artist and a sometimes poet. I enjoy the strange results that come about when language collides with imagery.
