About Matt Dicicco
I have a passion for the space where software and hardware meet in the real world: actuators, sensors, planning, controls. I feel that a combined knowledge of both hardware and software together produce the best results. I have a background in mechanical systems hardware that I feel is helpful for writing good control software, but I also like taking my knowledge of software and sensors to help design good hardware.I've been incredibly lucky to have worked with multiple teams where we assembled new, novel robotic systems and made them move for the first time. I'm always excited to hear about new opportunities to do this kind of groundbreaking work again in the future.I have worked with robot arms and mobile robots in a variety of settings and am interested in exploring numerous areas of cutting edge research: manipulator kinematics and control, tele-operation, motion planning, force control, and vision guided manipulation.Specialty skills:Proficient in C/C++ and Python development in LinuxExperienced with ROS in both C++ and Python in LinuxVersion control with git (preferred) and svnTechnical computing and simulation experience on various platforms: MATLAB, Simulink, AdamsProficient in 3D CAD design in Solidworks, Fusion 360, OnShapeGUI design experience in QtBasic electronics experience with microcontrollers, mostly atmel (arduino) Proficient in metal shop: mill, lathe, basic CNCExperienced with FDM based 3D printers

Member of technical staff and robotics software engineer for 5+ years. Worked in a variety of positions across numerous disciplines including:Robotics control software developer:-Developed control software for robotic arms including cartesian arm control for instrument placement and digging-Responsible for design, analysis and implementation of various advanced algorithms, including: force control, compliant motion, and vision-guided manipulation-Implemented low level motor control software, interfacing to COTS hardware-Designed and implemented low level robotics software architectures-Maintained and managed group software infrastructureSimulation software developer:-Developed lightweight simulation software for rover navigation testing-Worked on flight project as part of 10+ member ground support equipment software team developing avionics simulations to test flight software, including integration with physics based robotic arm simulatorTest engineer:-Test analyst on Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) flight project for early FGPA testing of various avionics assemblies and fixtures for robot arm testing-Designed mechanical test equipment and procedures for testing of cryogenic (low temperature) force sensors for use on MarsSystems engineer:-Avionics and software systems engineer for various research projects
Research Assistant
I designed force control systems for a heavy lift robot for the Navy. This robot was designed to work on the decks aircraft carriers to load weapons on aircraft. The force control system allowed for the operator to interact directly with the payload to deal with tight tolerances on the payload mating fixtures.Advisor: Prof. Steven Dubowsky
Research Assistant
I worked in the medical technology research center as an undergraduate research assistant. Our project involved designing an exoskeleton for the disabled. This project used EMG muscle sensors as control signals to provide natural interaction with the exoskeleton.Advisor: Prof. Yoky Matsuoka
Concepts Development Intern
Developed concepts for weaponizing Army Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).
