I am a former U.S. Department of Justice trial attorney concentrating my practice on white collar criminal defense and government investigations, federal tax controversies, corporate compliance, and complex civil litigation. I regularly represent individuals and businesses in a wide range of federal grand jury investigations and criminal prosecutions involving tax, money laundering, FCPA, health care, securities, RICO, public corruption, and fraud offenses. I have significant experience in handling all stages of federal litigation including trials and appeals. I also maintain an extensive tax controversy practice, representing individual and business taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service, the United States Tax Court, and the United States Court of Federal Claims. I represent taxpayers at all stages of proceedings before the IRS, including audits, appeals, and collections, and Tax Court and district court litigation. I have advised hundreds of clients as to FBAR and FATCA reporting obligations, and have significant experience with the Internal Revenue Service’s voluntary disclosure programs and the Streamlined Filing Compliance Procedures. I also frequently advise clients as to compliance issues involving the Bank Secrecy Act, the USA Patriot Act, the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), and anti-money laundering laws and regulations. I am the author of "The Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act Answer Book," originally published in April 2015 by the Practising Law Institute and revised annually, most recently in 2021. I also publish a blog entitled "Tax Controversy and Financial Crimes Report" (https://taxcontroversy.foxrothschild.com/). Mr. Lee is active in pro bono matters, and is the inaugural recipient of the Edwin P. Rome Pro Bono Achievement Award for his commitment to pro bono service and devotion to the pursuit of equal justice for all. Mr. Lee has been annually selected as a member of the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania Pro Bono Roll of Honor.
