Mine Warfare Specialist

Assigned to work in the Combat Information Center (CIC) division as a maintenance man, with responsibilities for preventative and corrective maintenance of minehunting equipment, in minehunting sonar operation, and ECDIS-N & RADAR operation. Secondary responsibilities included preparing and presenting intelligence briefs. In November 2016, I transferred to assist within the Navigation Department where I was tasked with upkeep of navigational equipment and to train and qualify within navigational watchstanding positions.In June 2017, I transferred back to CIC. I became responsible for the ship’s intelligence program, training the ship's photographic examination teams, and maintaining all classified and other sensitive materials onboard. I assisted the work center supervisor in oversight of completion of all CIC maintenance. I worked as repair parts petty officer and ordered new parts for equipment as needed. I was an important part of the ship's damage control team as On-Scene Leader and Investigator.In August 2018, I was designated as Minehunting Sonar Lead Technician and became one of two Quartermaster of the Watch (QMOW) qualified personnel onboard the USS Patriot.As collateral duties, I managed the ship’s store and was directly in charge of all funds and inventory. I served as assistant to the Public Affairs Officer, assisting in the updating of the ship’s social media publications. In June 2019, I took the conn of the USS Patriot on 6 open ocean transits and qualified as a Conning Officer.During this period overall, I participated in 4 bi-lateral mine countermeasure exercises, 1 multi-national mine countermeasure exercise, served temporary duty onboard the USS Chief, and engaged in community services and activities with allied navies. Exited service as a Mineman Second Class (MN2).Ended active duty service on 7 July 2019.
