About Matthew Etu
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering from the University at Buffalo. After graduation, I spent time in Rochester, NY working on Federal Penitentiaries and Department of Defense projects. Returning to Buffalo, I joined Tredo Engineers as a structural engineer. After several years with TE, I diversified my knowledge base by embracing civil-site design in equal measure with structural building design; a skill which expanded into site and urban planning, as well. After twenty years, I am now a partner and licensed in four states. A glutton for punishment, I am the lead designer on projects up to 23 stories, 150-acres, and budgets up to $110M while also acting as office manager. Simultaneously, I have served as a board member of the local non-profit Buffalo Architecture Foundation and as the Deputy Mayor of the Village of Williamsville.An advocate for education and literacy in the community, I spearheaded the design, construction and installation of six, architecturally unique Little Free Libraries placed in underprivileged neighborhoods throughout the City of Buffalo. I was active in the local chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers and have provided professional critique for students at SUNY Buffalo School of Architecture.
