My research in Scott Diamond's lab focused on neutrophil (a type of white blood cell) membrane mechanics and endothelial cell biology. This research produced a publication in the journal Biorheology (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21515936) and oral presentations at the annual AIChE conference in 2009 and annual BMES conference in 2010.I analyzed terabytes of data to identify significant trends in relevant metrics, and developed my ability to prioritize information efficiently to draw solid conclusions and keep projects moving forward. I also quantitatively modeled biological processes in MATLAB using deterministic and stochastic methods. This experience allows me to not only model a diverse array of situations but also, more generally, to approach a question from different angles and assess which approach is most appropriate.

I collaborated on a novel platform for measuring the diffusion of molecules representative of those relevant to anti-HIV microbicidal function.
