I manage relationships with leaders of in-house departments of world-leading information and communication technology companies, to develop prosecution, enforcement and invention-harvesting strategies, and to provide clear and meaningful management information about large portfolios. I have also helped various start-ups create valuable IP portfolios instrumental in successful exits.I have extensive experience with EPO hearings, both at first instance (Examining Division, typically) and second instance (Boards of Appeal), and have achieved considerable success at both levels.I have a great deal of experience with gesture-based user interfaces, operating systems, databases, and processor and memory architectures. I very much enjoy getting to grips with mathematical inventions and have been involved with many patent applications in the areas of machine learning, autonomous vehicle guidance, mid-air haptics, search engines and crowd-sourced network-performance monitoring. Another area of focus is communications technology. I have drafted and prosecuted many patent applications relating to concepts as wide-ranging as 3GPP Layer 1 architectures, error-correction coding, Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth®, protocol stacks, RFID, power amplifier linearization and masthead amplifier design.After completing my Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics at Oxford University, I trained as a C/UNIX® programmer before changing tack and becoming an Examiner at the UKIPO. At the culmination of my three years there, I was one of their leading specialists on patent eligibility and software inventions. That valuable experience I still draw on frequently to tune arguments for optimum impact.
