For more than 5 years I've been a specialist consultant with Victa Railfreight. During that time I have been supporting a variety of clients from the private, public and third sectors. Much of my work is supporting heritage transport and during that time I have helped many notable charities across the UK. Through Victa Railfreight I was a Director of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, an accredited museum and Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation. The railway is one of the largest paid-for charitable visitor attractions in the North East and possibly the largest heritage railway in the UK. Despite stepping down as a Director I continue to support the charity on an ongoing basis. Elsewhere I've provided document writing services, project management and specialist advice on leadership, governance, charities, operations, safety, business and event management.In the private sector, many of the clients whom I have supported include well-known port operators, logistics companies, rail operators as well as aggregate and construction companies delivering one-off projects, training, competence management and advice depending on their needs.Before I joined Victa my working life was spent almost exclusively in the third sector working and often volunteering at all levels of many well-known heritage railways. While working at Kent & East Sussex Railway and the Swanage Railway in Dorset, I held leadership positions where I helped shape and develop these organisations. Outside of work, I'm keen on the preservation of heritage skills and rural crafts, nature conservation and preservation of our built heritage. Trained to HND level in Countryside Management, I've supported many organisations with conservation projects. I volunteer for the National Trust, Kent & East Sussex Railway and the Heritage Railway Association. At home, my wife and I keep poultry and generally try to do our bit for a sustainable lifestyle. I'm a self-taught traditional coach painter and sign writer and can often be found at shows and rallies such as Chalke Valley giving demonstrations on traditional wood sawing using rack saw benches. With a couple of (very) minor television appearances in documentaries, I'm quite happy extolling the virtues of our heritage!
